Web Publishing

INTRODUCTION TO WEB PUBLISHING (582-101-DW; 60 HOURS)

Prerequisite: Familiarity with computers

This course provides an overview of the internet and popular applications used in viewing, finding, creating, managing and distributing web documents. Topics include:

  • the markup language used to format individual pages
  • styles and efficiencies in writing effective and attractive web pages
  • optimizing and implementing graphics for the web
  • color theory
  • linkage considerations
  • introduction to information architecture
  • interface and interaction design
  • overview of the job opportunities available
  • individual analysis of each students strengths and weaknesses in the context of the web publishing industry.

 

ACTIONSCRIPT (582-202-DW; 75 HOURS)

Prerequisite: It is recommended that students are experienced computer users

This course is intended to introduce students to ActionScript. ActionScript is Flash’s scripting language, which allows the user to add interactivity to Flash Movies and Flash-based websites. This class will focus on learning programming basics using ActionScript 3.0 as well as creating interactive content, such as a simple web site and Facebook game.

 

ADVANCED WEB PUBLISHING (582-304-DW; 75 HOURS)

Prerequisite: 582-101-DW Intro to Web publishing, or equivalent experience. It is recommended that students take 582-202-DW ActionScript and 582-210-DW Fundamentals of 2D Animation the Web prior to this course

The material covered in this course places an emphasis on having the students being able to create interactive web sites using cutting-edge technologies including html, xhtml, xml, cascading style sheets, JavaScript, audio, video, multimedia and other web design tools.  Information related to web site usability, site promotion, security, content management systems, search engine optimization, mobile web site development, starting a web publishing business and creating a successful online portfolio will also be covered.
