Dawson hosts Montreal Independent Games Festival

The Montreal Indie Games Festival (MIGF) will hold its first annual event on Saturday, March 28 at Dawson College.

The goal of the MIGF is to provide visibility for indie game developers and to create awareness of the indie scene to the general public. The main focus of the event is the exhibition of indie games on the show floor featuring various independent game studios primarily from Montreal.

In addition to this, the selected exhibitors will each be considered for one of 6 awards that seek to highlight achievements in design, art, sound, and innovation. The event will end with a public award ceremony commemorating the works of the exhibitors.

The event is an inclusive family friendly affair. Attendees can see games that are early in their development cycle and in most cases try them hands-on before their release. Attendees may also try their game-playing skills by participating in one of the on-site video game tournaments to be held during the festival.

This event is organized in partnership with Dawson College, and builds upon its 9 year dedication to video game instructional expertise that started with its involvement in the Ubisoft Campus, and which continued into offering its own Level Design and Independent Game Design programs, as well as current a-la-carte video game courses. Dawson College is situated in Downtown Montreal with convenient public transportation access.
