The purpose of this log is keep the Dawson Community, as well as research communities in general, informed about active research projects involving Dawson students and staff. The log will be updated regularly in accordance with the decisions of the REB.
1. When is ethics review by the REB at Dawson College required?
Research ethics review is required for:
1) Researchers (both Dawson researchers and researchers from other institutions) who wish to conduct research with human participants(students and/or staff) at Dawson College and,
2) Dawson Researchers, under the auspices of Dawson College, who wish to conduct research with human participants external to the College.
2. Who decides whether or not ethics review is required for a project?
In unclear situations it is the REB's mandate to determine whether or not ethics review is required. While researchers are always responsible for ethical conduct in their research involving human participants, they have the support of the REB.
When in doubt, and to ensure ethical standards are upheld consistently, researchers are asked to present any project to the REB for a determination on whether or not ethics review is required.
Please send a detailed description of your projects to the Chair of the Research Ethics Board, by email:

3. What information can be found in the Log of Active Research Projects?
This log records the ethics review status of research projects that have been presented to the Research Ethics Board at Dawson College. It will be updated as decisions are amde on new applications and as ethics review status changes. Some projects that have been reviewed by the REB may not appear in this log if a formal application was not required because ethics approval was not required. The log lists the researchers' name(s), the title of the project, the ethics review status of the application, and other pertinent information as determined by the REB.
4. Why the information in this log is made public?
It is important for the Dawson community to be informed about the research that is taking place at the College. By making the results of ethics review public, the REB aims to help protect researchers and research participants.
5. What do I do if I am asked to participate in a research project that does not appear on this log?
If you are a Dawson College student or employee and you are aware of an active research project involving human participants at Dawson College that does not appear on this log, please contact the Chair of the Research Ethics Board, Julie Mooney by email rebchair@dawsoncollege.qc.ca.
