We will be formulating a response to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada\u2019s consultation on their proposals for ensuring appropriate regulation of AI.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) is currently engaged in legislative reform policy analysis of both federal privacy laws. We are examining artificial intelligence (AI) as a subset of this work as it relates specifically to the\u00a0Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act\u00a0(PIPEDA).<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are of the view that\u00a0PIPEDA\u00a0falls short in its application to\u00a0AI\u00a0systems and we have identified several areas where\u00a0PIPEDA\u00a0could be enhanced. We are seeking to consult with experts in the field to validate our understanding of how privacy principles should apply and whether our proposals would be consistent with the responsible development and deployment of these systems.\u201d<\/p>\n
