Through research, she&#160; demonstrated the important role technology and other factors play in the lives of individuals with disabilities and worked to make postsecondary education more inclusive. Equally important, Dr. Fichten devoted much of her time mentoring and supervising students, especially students with disabilities, encouraging them to pursue studies and careers in academic research. Over many years she brought on students as research assistants to work on projects at the Adaptech Research Network, to expose them to and provide experience in the work that goes into conducting and publishing research studies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"desc\">\n<p>This award is given to a graduating student, who has a disability and&#160;who is passionate about pursuing academic research in the areas of Psychology or related disciplines.&#160;<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><strong>Eligibility Criteria: <\/strong> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a graduating student<\/li>\n<li>Plan on pursuing academic research in the areas of Psychology or related disciplines&#160;<\/li>\n<li>Provide one letter of reference by the application deadline date (reference persons may email their letters directly to awards@dawsoncollege.qc.ca)<\/li>\n<li>Must either be registered with Student AccessAbility Centre (SAAC) OR provide proof of disability documentation to the Awards Office by the deadline. Ideally one letter should be from a teacher of Humanities at Dawson, and one letter from a second person of their choosing. The Mahsa Amini Initiative is a continuous, student-led project started in Fall 2022 by the DSU and its volunteers and supported by Dawson community members. One part of this project is a monetary award aiming to support resilient international and refugee students affected by conflict and in need of financial aid. Though often overlooked, these crises can have a significant negative impact on students\u2019 personal and academic lives.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"desc\">\n<p>Given to up to two students, the Mahsa Amini Scholarship aims to help resilient international and refugee students in financial need. Priority is given to students who identify as women and non-binary people to honour Mahsa Amini, movements fighting for women\u2019s freedom, and to recognize the persisting economic and social gender gap. All international and refugee students are encouraged to apply, regardless of gender.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><strong>Eligibility Criteria: <\/strong> <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>be an international student or refugee<\/li>\n<li>be in financial need or in need of extra financial support<\/li>\n<li>priority will be given to candidates who identify as women or non-binary people<\/li>\n<li>students who are tuition-exempt are not eligible for this award<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Special Notes: <\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Applicants may also submit additional documents to the selection committee such as a picture, a piece of writing, or anything they wish to add. Raymond graduated from Social Science in 2001 and at the time of his passing was a local business man.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"desc\">\n<div class=\"ExternalClass5E6AFEC5EA014F71933D2389BC959F66\">\n<p>This award is given to a graduating Black Social Science student in good academic standing who demonstrates ambition and has a caring attitude towards others.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><strong>Eligibility Criteria: <\/strong> <\/p>\n<div class=\"ExternalClass19D1571E717845B8AF48D21AA2DD1DE9\">\n<ul>\n<li>Be a Black student in the Social Science program<\/li>\n<li>Be a graduating student in good academic standing<\/li>\n<li>Have exhibited ambition, dedication, and commitment to hard work, and demonstrate a positive, passionate, caring attitude towards others<\/li>\n<li>Financial need may be taken into consideration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><strong>Application Period: <\/strong> March 26th, 2026 - April 12th, 2026<\/div>\n<p><\/p><\/div><\/div><div id=\"rob-springer-memorial-award\" class=\"new dc_accordion  multiple\"  ><h4 class=\"dc_accordion-title highlighta\" ><a class=\"\" style=\"\" href=\"#rob-springer-memorial-award\">Rob Springer Memorial Award <\/a><\/h4><div class=\"dc_accordion-body \" style=\"\" ><div><strong>Value: <\/strong> $500.00<\/div>\n<div class=\"story\">\n<div class=\"ExternalClass79C1E5580E0046C89B51A8284EDEDC74\">\n<p>This award is named after Rob Springer an employee of the Dawson Helpdesk\/IST who lost his life in February 2015. Rob was larger than life, both throughout the College in his role in IST and at PARC where he was known as Bear for his tireless support of and help to the teams, especially the women's hockey team. It was established to enable students to take an intensive outdoor education course that they may not otherwise be able to afford. Rose was a former Winnipegger who studied and graduated with her Registered Nursing degree in the 1920's at the California Lutheran Hospital and practiced in Los Angeles until 1930 when she returned to Canada to marry Sidney Pearlman. During the depression she\u200b practiced nursing in the homes of terminally ill patients. When questioned on the award requirements, Rose replied &quot;the person should be pleasant&quot;.
