{"id":11,"date":"2014-04-22T13:42:56","date_gmt":"2014-04-22T13:42:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/credit\/?page_id=11"},"modified":"2015-10-21T10:41:57","modified_gmt":"2015-10-21T14:41:57","slug":"social-science-300-a0","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/credit\/dec-pre-u-programs\/social-science-300-a0\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Science 300.A0"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Program Information<\/h2>\n<p>The Social Science program at Dawson College is an exciting and diverse pre-university program that prepares students for university studies in the social sciences, as well as law, education and administration by offering a variety of courses in Anthropology, Biology, Business Administration, Classics, Economics, English, French, Geography, History, Humanities, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Religion and Sociology.<\/p>\n<p>To complete the DEC\u00a0Social Science program through Continuing Education, students\u00a0may need to select a limited number of advanced option courses that are offered only in the day.<\/p>\n<p>Students entering Social Science may take one, two or three mathematics courses.<\/p>\n<header class=\"entry-header\">\n<h1 class=\"entry-title\">Admission Requirements<\/h1>\n<\/header>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<h3>Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES), including:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Secondary V Language of Instruction<\/li>\n<li>Secondary V Second Language<\/li>\n<li>Secondary IV Science<\/li>\n<li>Secondary IV Mathematics<\/li>\n<li>Secondary IV History<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>or academic background judged equivalent to the DES.<\/p>\n<p>(Students with a DES missing any of the above subjects may be admitted, space permitting, but may be required to complete remedial courses.)<\/p>\n<h3>Specific ministerial admission requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Sec IV Mathematics \u2013 Cultural, Social &amp; Technical option 563-404\/414<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*For students graduating before June 2010 or from an Adult Education Centre, the pre-requisite is Mathematics 416<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Objectives of the Program<\/h2>\n<p>The Social Science program seeks to develop the abilities of students to research, analyze, and communicate within the context of a wider awareness of the world.<\/p>\n<p>The goals of the Social Science Program are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to acquaint students with the principal concepts and practices in the social science disciplines<\/li>\n<li>to help students develop an understanding of the scientific method and the objectives and current methods of social science research<\/li>\n<li>to develop the language skills of the students so that they can communicate at an appropriate level generally, and specifically, in the vocabulary of the social sciences<\/li>\n<li>to equip the students with the capacity to establish relationships between the principal elements and concepts of the social science disciplines<\/li>\n<li>to help students integrate the disciplinary knowledge into a coherent framework.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>University \/ Careers<\/h2>\n<p>A Diploma of College Studies (DEC) in Social Science allows students to pursue university studies in any social science field, provided the appropriate pre-requisite courses have been taken.
