This may be in the medical and life sciences as well as biotechnology, or in\u00a0the physical and engineering sciences.<\/p>\n<p>Students will receive a\u00a0solid grounding in mathematics,\u00a0physics, chemistry and biology. To graduate\u00a0with a DEC in Science through Continuing Education, students\u00a0may have to select\u00a0from a limited number of advanced option courses\u00a0that are only offered in the day.<\/p>\n<p>In the medical and life sciences,\u00a0students may pursue a Bachelor\u2019s degree in such fields as biology, biochemistry, physiology, ecology and in professional programs such as medicine, dentistry, nursing and physiotherapy. In the physical and engineering sciences,\u00a0students may pursue a Bachelor\u2019s degree in such fields as computer science, mathematics, geology, and physics and in professional programs such as engineering and architecture.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Among the skills you will develop in the Science DEC program are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>approaching problem-solving in a systematic way<\/li>\n<li>applying the experimental method using data-processing technology and electronic forms of communication<\/li>\n<li>using computerized data-acquisition systems<\/li>\n<li>identifying the context in which scientific ideas originated and evolved<\/li>\n<li>using the basic vocabulary of the sciences in French<br \/>\n<h1><\/h1>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Admission Requirements<\/h2>\n<h3>Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES), including:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Secondary V Language of Instruction<\/li>\n<li>Secondary V Second Language<\/li>\n<li>Secondary IV\u00a0Science<\/li>\n<li>Secondary IV Mathematics<\/li>\n<li>Secondary IV History<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>or academic background judged equivalent to the DES. (Students with a DES missing any of the above subjects may be admitted, space permitting, but may be required to complete remedial courses.)<\/p>\n<h3>Specific ministerial admission requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Sec V Mathematics \u2013 Technical &amp; Scientific option or Science option 564-506 or 565-506<\/li>\n<li>Sec V Chemistry 551-504<\/li>\n<li>Sec V Physics 553-504<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>*For students graduating before June 2010 or from an Adult Education Centre, the pre-requisites are Mathematics 536, Chemistry 534, and Physics 534.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Science DEC program offered in Continuing Education is a\u00a0pre-university program that prepares students for entry to university in the sciences.
