English as a Second Language – Level 3

Prerequisite: Level 2

Overall Goals:
1. Provide the students, who have an understanding of English basics and can deal effectively with familiar everyday situations, with the vocabulary, grammatical structures and language functions necessary for communicating accurately and fluently in various contexts.

2. Develop students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through various communicative activities focusing on dealing with tourists, discussing movies, choosing a hotel, discussing car accidents, describing personalities and comparing works of art.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Get acquainted with tourists and discuss different cultures and customs
2. Discuss movie preferences, make arrangements and apologize for being late
3. Choose a hotel, check in, and request housekeeping services
4. Discuss car accidents and driving problems
5. Make an appointment at a salon or spa and discuss ways of improving appearance
6. Discuss food passions and lifestyle changes and make an excuse for declining food
7. Discuss and compare personality traits
8. Recommend a museum, describe objects, and compare genres of art
9. Write a short essay describing an interesting experience or comparing good and bad drivers
10. Write a formal letter suggesting ways for improving appearance.
