Japanese Conversation – Level 1

In each class, students will be shown key words and sentences, and grammatical explanations as well as providing a basic level of writing and reading skills (hiragana, katakana, and kanji).

Topics include:
• Introductions and greetings: the form to learn in Japanese will be “Hello my name is Mary. How do you do”
• Indicating number, time & date: the form to learn in Japanese will be “My phone number is 852-1032”,“It is 8 o’clock now”, “January first is a Monday”
• Naming things: the form to learn in Japanese will be “This is my book”
• Describing actions: the form to learn in Japanese will be “I study Japanese”, “You drink coffee”, “I read a book”
• when/where you do things: the form to learn in Japanese will be “ I go to school at 8:00”, “I read books at library”
• Invitations: the form to learn in Japanese will be “I study Japanese”; “Would you like to see a movie?”
• Indicating position: the form to learn in Japanese will be ” Your book is on the table”
• Expressing ownership and events: “I don’t have a TV”, “There will be an exam on Tuesday”
• Asking questions: the form to learn in Japanese will be “What time is it now?”, “How old are you?”, “Who is he?”, “How much is it?”, “When do you get there?”
• The negative: the form to learn in Japanese will be “ I am not an American”, “This is not my bag”, “I don’t drink coffee”
• Past form: the form to learn in Japanese will be “ I saw him yesterday”, “Yesterday was not Monday”
