Japanese Conversation – Level 2

In each class students will be shown key words and sentences, and grammatical explanations. This course will focus on developing listening and conversation skills as well as providing a basic level of writing and reading skills.

Topics include:
• Describing things: “His watch is expensive.”
• Expressing your taste: “I like surfing.”
• Expressing invitation and suggestion: “Let’s study in the library together”,” Shall we drink coffee at the cafeteria?”
• Making a request: “Please call me tomorrow.”
• Ask permission: “May I borrow your book?”
• Denying somebody’s permission to do something: “You may not see the textbook.”
• Listing successive actions or events: “I will go to a bookstore and go home.”
• Expressing a reason: “Let’s go by bus. (Because) taxies are expensive.”
• Expressing an action in progress: “He is watching TV.”
• Expressing state of affairs: “He lives in Tokyo”,” He is married.”
• Describing a person’s appearance: “She has long hair”,” Mary is wearing glasses.”
• Casual conversational form (present).
• Representing and quoting speech: “I think we will have an exam tomorrow”,
“She said that there would be an exam tomorrow.”
