Novel Coronavirus Information

The risk of Canadians contracting the Novel Coronavirus is low, according to Health Canada. Most people with common coronavirus illness will recover on their own.

The Public Health Agency of Canada is working with international partners to actively monitor the situation and is posting updates online.

Protect yourself and others

You can reduce exposure and the transmission of colds and flus by following these health precautions:

  • Washing your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoiding contact with people who are sick
  • Covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze
  • Staying home if you are sick

If you have concerns about possible exposure to the Coronavirus or would like to know more about the virus, consult the FAQ page on the Public Health Agency of Canada website: (https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/frequently-asked-questions.html)

If you are coughing frequently and you have visited the Chinese cities known to have cases, or if you are in close contact with people who have visited those cities recently, you should consult a doctor in a hospital Emergency Department to be tested for the Coronavirus.
