COVID at Dawson update
Since the return of students on Aug. 23, there have been a few isolated cases of COVID-19:
- Six students: five who were on campus and one who tested positive, but who did not come to the campus
- One employee who was on site
To give you some context for these numbers, about 12,000 students, faculty and staff and other people, like construction workers, access the site every week, not all at the same time.
Any student or employee who was considered a contact of someone who was at Dawson and tested positive has already been notified. If you do not receive a direct message from Dawson College Health Services or the Direction régionale de santé publique (DRSP) about being in contact with a COVID case, you should not be concerned.
Prevention and protection
If you are fully vaccinated, wearing your mask properly and washing/sanitizing your hands frequently, you are quite well protected. Practice physical distancing as much as possible and spend more time outdoors when socializing.
Dawson has a task force in place that worked on a safe return to campus for students and employees that continues to meet regularly to review and evaluate the situation and make updates to strategies and procedures. In addition, the College is in constant contact with the Direction régionale de santé publique (DRSP).
There are measures in place at Dawson as in all CEGEPs to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In addition to mask wearing, Dawson is also encouraging students to leave after their last class and security agents patrol common areas to enforce mask wearing. Students who do not follow the rules about wearing masks face serious consequences, including the ultimate consequence of being expelled from the College.
If you are not already vaccinated, please do so to protect yourself and your community:
