Visit of the Old Prison of Trois-Rivières Fall 2019

October 30th - 30th, 2019

History students will visit the old prison of Trois-Rivières built in 1822-1823 which is now part of Le Musée POP (du Québec).

The visit includes a group session with an ex-convict who will describe the harsh reality of prison life in the 1970s and 1980s, just before the prison closed its doors.

The visit also integrates a special activity where the students play the role of jurors in a mock murder trial.

The three activities take the entire day (from 10 am to 3pm).

Project Update

All of 64 students and teachers from the Law, Society and Justice Profile enrolled in the Crime and Society in Canadian History course attended the tour of the prison.  What students appreciated the most was (again!) the ex-convict testimony given by Réjean. Students really appreciated hearing about the reality of prison life and the difficult journey of rehabilitation.
