Projects for Peace – Habitat Restoration

The Projects for Peace – Habitat Restoration project was one of three week-long initiatives by the Dawson Peace Centre to convert one of Dawson’s interior rooftop courtyards into habitat for indigenous plants and animals. This space will not only serve to create a special place for local flora and fauna, but it will also be actively used by faculty as a pedagogical space integrating outdoor learning and hands-on class activities. Natural spaces have been shown to significantly reduce stress, absenteeism, violence and benefit mental and physical health while increasing positive emotions. This project contributed to one of the College’s core values within its strategic plan – well-being for all, sustainably.
