Program Information
The Interior Design Program is a three-year career program that prepares students to work as professional interior designers. Interior Design graduates may work for Interior Design firms or related businesses of the building trade. They may also establish their own businesses.
In the Interior Design Program, students will learn to identify, research and creatively solve problems relating to the function and aesthetic quality of interior space. The emphasis is on residential, commercial and institutional interiors. Building systems and structure, furnishings, three-dimensional space planning, colour, materials and environmental design are some of the topics covered.
Objectives of Program
Upon graduation, students will be prepared for a career in Interior Design. Graduates must be prepared to solve problems with a creative, ethical and logical approach, balancing technological, business, and human values.
Learning activities are designed to provide conceptual sophistication, specialized knowledge and intellectual autonomy. Students learn by blending theory and applied practice.
Program graduates with three years of experience in the field are eligible to sit for the examination given by the National Council for Interior Design Qualifications (NCIDQ).
Career Opportunities
Interior designers usually work either in interior design or architectural firms, for design consulting firms, as consultants to paint and carpet manufacturers, in furniture display, exhibition design, related interior design sales, and in residential interior design. This program also offers a good basis for continued study in furniture and lighting design.
