Thierry Doizon – Concept artist, illustrator.

Pascal Blanchet – Illustrator.

All-Day Conference held on March 21st, 2018 for Illustration & Design and 3D Animation & CGI students.

Thierry Doizon

Thierry Doizon started off this lively and informative conference by outlining his life experiences and how it shaped his eventual career as a successful concept artist and designer in popular video games and the entertainment industry. From his birthplace in Madagascar, to Europe, USA, and eventually Montreal, Thierry took us on an artist’s journey which combined his love of drawing, industrial design, extreme sports and travelling describing how all these elements contributed to his creativity, and made him a better concept artist. His presentation was supported with slides and videos, often as collages of progressive stages of his process in digital painting. This was followed by a Q&A session where students asked many questions related to design and illustration. Thierry provided a wealth of inside information about the illustrator’s process, as well as very practical advice on the business aspects of making a living as a leading-edge artist and designer.

Pascal Blanchet

Pascal Blanchet gave a well-designed presentation outlining his career as an award-winning Quebec illustrator. His witty rapport and warm humility were complimented by his razor-sharp book and poster illustrations. Pascal gave the students an eye-opening look at the trials and tribulations of making it in the field of book illustration, as well as a sneak peak into his work with Wes Anderson on Isle of Dogs, and art directing music videos for Pierre Lapointe. His process using Adobe Illustrator was discussed, as well as how he negotiated some contracts, giving an honest insight into the practical business of editorial and print illustration. The Q&A was very relevant to current student projects.

Both presenters were very warmly received and the students, as well as teachers attending were enthralled and entertained, as well as informed and inspired.
