Ottawa trip to visit NRC & TSB 2019

March 21st, 2019

Science students will take a trip to Ottawa to visit research facilities at the National Research Council (NRC) and the Transportation Safety Board (TSB). Students will be separated into three groups and each group will visit 4 different labs for about 1.5 hours each visit (total of 12 labs). In preparation for the lab visits and as a part of the Enriched Science weekly activities, a smaller group of students will do some exploratory research on the work being done in a subset of the labs to be visited and will develop an information sheet that will allow all students on the trip to inform themselves while on the bus ride to Ottawa. On the return trip, students will be placed into groups of three – with one person from each lab-visit group and they will share with each other what they saw on their particular visit. Students will also create short group video descriptions of at least one of the labs they visited which will be collected and assembled into a promotional video for next year’s trip.

Project Update

By visiting facilities where world class science and engineering is happening, students get to see what science really is. For learning, motivation and communication, there is no better experience and it gives students a great idea of what their careers in science can be like.
