Curriculum Committee

Join the Curriculum Committee!

The First Peoples’ Initiative welcomes interested faculty members to join our curriculum committee or get involved in special events. We would especially welcome faculty from professional programs and sciences. Please contact Mark Beauchamp at mbeauchamp@dawsoncollege.qc.ca if you are interested.

Faculty Development

The First Peoples’ curriculum committee creates opportunities for faculty development in First Peoples’ education, including organizing ped day and other events.

We also encourage program coordinators and departmental curriculum committees to bring in Indigenous speakers or organize specialized workshops for their departments or programs. Please contact us if you need help or resource people. We also welcome ideas for college-wide pedagogical activities.

“Tea and Talk” sessions are held weekly on Thursdays from 1-4 in 3F.43 (ask for directions if you don’t know where that is!) for faculty and staff to discuss, in a friendly, informal setting, any issues related to Indigenous education. These are usually drop-in meetings, so you can stop by with a quick question at any point in the afternoon or settle in for a deep discussion. Check here for specially scheduled topics and speakers.

Indigenous Knowledge Keepers in the Classroom

We encourage all teachers to invite Indigenous knowledge keepers or resource people into their classrooms to present Indigenous content and perspectives whenever possible. We can help you find the right resource person, so please contact someone on the committee or Tiawenti:non Canadian, the First Peoples’ Coordinator. (A list of resource people for our SharePoint site is in development.)

The curriculum committee is also planning to develop a Certificate in Indigenous Studies. If you are already teaching a course that would be appropriate or would like to, please let us know! If you are interested in teaching in the Journeys program, please contact Michelle Smith.
