Ecology & Culture (Costa Rica trip) 2019

January 2nd - 14th, 2019

Students will travel to Costa Rica to complete the Ecology & Culture course. During the 12 day trip the students will be staying with local families and experiencing what it is like to live in rural Costa Rica; participating in family meals and celebrations, cooking, fishing, farming, ecotourism and everyday life.

At times when students are not with their families, they will be exploring one of the most biodiverse locations on the planet. They will visit several national parks, beaches and volcanoes, learning the history of the area, identifying animals, plants and insects, and working on questions.

Project Update

23 adventurous students completed the Ecology & Culture complementary course in Costa Rica January 2019. The course was a tremendous success. Students explored three different tropical ecosystems; Tropical Dry forest, Tropical Wet forest and Coastal ecosystems. In each of these systems, students performed assigned tasks to learn about the evolutionary histories, adaptations and special characteristics of each location.

At the same time, students stayed with local families; experiencing everyday Costa Rican life first hand. They experienced family dynamics, local quisine, language and learnt about culture, history and geography.
