Chinese Characters – Level 1B (In-person)
This introductory course aligns with and supports the elementary curriculum. It provides tools for systematically and thoroughly understanding the evolution of Chinese character radicals and their common meanings. The six traditional categories of Chinese characters will be introduced to assist students in memorizing and recognizing these characters. (Section II)
Prerequisites or prior knowledge
- Chinese characters – level 1A
Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, students will:
- Character Recognition & Comprehension – Recognize 160 characters and 500 common words while understanding their meanings and contextual usage in 75 sentences.
- Writing & Stroke Mastery – Learn to count writing strokes, understand their significance, and accurately demonstrate character writing.
- Character Formation & Development – Decode the methods of Chinese character formation and track character development over time.
