Chinese Elementary – Level 4B (In-person)
This course is a continuation of the foundational Chinese language course, designed for students who have completed Elementary 3 or possess a basic understanding of Chinese.
This course focuses on expanding vocabulary, improving sentence structures, and introducing more complicated grammar concepts. Students will develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The course also deepens cultural understanding, encouraging learners to use the language confidently in everyday communication.

Teaching & Learning Activities
The course incorporates various teaching and learning activities to help learners build a solid understanding of basic vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure.
Specifically, they are:
1. Vocabulary practice:
- Flashcards
- Matching activities: Match characters with their meaning or Pinyin to reinforce recognition.
- Contextual practice: Use vocabulary in sentences or dialogues from the book.
2. Speaking activities:
- Listening and imitation
- Dialogues: Practice dialogues provided in the books and focus on ?uency and pronunciation.
- Pair work: Ask and answer questions in pairs.
- Role play: Simulate real-life scenarios using the vocabulary and grammar learned.
- Group discussion
3. Writing practice:
- Character writing: Practice stroke order and structure of new characters
- Sentence and short paragraph construction: Create sentences and write short paragraphs using new vocabulary and grammar points.
- Brainstorming
- Peer review and feedback.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- Expand vocabulary on topics such as emotions, social activities and daily routines while deepening understanding complex sentence patterns.
- Engage in basic conversations and use polite and culturally appropriate expressions in different contexts.
- Recognize and read about 400 characters and comprehend short paragraphs, dialogues, and stories related to different topics.
- Develop an understanding of Chinese festivals, etiquette, and traditions and learn culturally appropriate language and behavior for common scenarios.
