Overall Goals:

1. Introduce the students, who have basic or no prior knowledge of Portuguese, to the basic vocabulary, grammatical rules, and functions necessary for discussing familiar topics like introducing people, talking about their family, and favourite sports, etc.
2. Provide students with various communicative activities for developing their listening, speaking and reading skills, and thus, enable them to function effectively in simple everyday situations.

Intended Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Introduce themselves and others and share basic personal information.
• Use common present tense verbs, including ser and estar, in simple sentences.
• Understand and use everyday vocabulary related to family, work, travel, food, dates, and time.
• Ask and answer basic questions in simple, predictable situations.
• Participate in short conversations in familiar daily context

• Listening activities (Listening for gist and for specific information)
• Reading activities (Skimming and scanning tasks)
• Grammar activities and games

Students may choose to purchase either the digital book or the printed book, not both.
The purchase should only be made after the first class.
