Indigenous Education Workshops – Friday August 21

The Inter-Collegiate Decolonization Network (IDN) is offering workshops led by Diane Labelle and Cathy Richardson, with funding from an ECQ grant. The workshops will be held via Zoom.

The first Zoom workshop is for educators; the second is open to all.

(1) Friday August 21, 10-12 with Diane Labelle: Indigenous Education: Online Assignments and Evaluations

In this workshop for educators, Diane Labelle will share Indigenous methods for assessing learning. In breakout groups we will discuss how to apply these methods and values to Cegep classes, and especially to online assessment. The workshop will proceed with all groups sharing and receiving feedback from the facilitator.

(2) Friday August 21, 1-3 pm with Cathy Richardson: Dignity, resistance, and creating positive social responses to people who have been harmed/marginalised

In this workshop for all Cegep workers, Métis educator, counsellor and facilitator Cathy Richardson will present her ideas related to inclusion and psychological/cultural safety. She will share the fundamentals of response-based practice and how they can be applied to classroom and workplace interaction: these include dignity, relationality, resistance to mistreatment and understanding responses to adversity. She will also discuss the importance of orchestrating positive social responses to those who are experiencing marginalization, exclusion or harm to minimize ongoing suffering.
