Yann Brouillette and Carmen Leung in ProfWeb Podcast!

From Profweb, April 27, 2020

A number of technologies have facilitated the transition to alternative methods of teaching. In recent years, these tools have become more user-friendly and accessible to teachers, who are using them to support a blended or fully on-line approach within their teaching practice.

Yann Brouillette and Carmen Leung are 2 such teachers from Dawson College. Profweb and SALTISE invited them to discuss how they are using videos created from PowerPoint which are augmented with interactivity using H5P within Moodle. They are using this along with the myDALITE platform as the foundation for their approach to distance delivery. Teachers who are taking their first steps towards alternative delivery can pick and choose pieces of the described approach according to their comfort level with technology and taking their particular needs into account.

This inaugural podcast is part of what we hope will become a series of podcasts that highlight how teachers are innovating in the digital age. These podcasts are a collaborative effort between Profweb and the SALTISE active learning community of practice.

Podcast #1 is comprised of 3 parts:

  1. Part 1 is an interview that describes the approach used by Carmen and Yann.
  2. Part 2 is a virtual visit of the Moodle platform with the interactive video component with formative quizzes (using H5P) and summative questions (using myDALITE).
  3. Part 3 is a quick tutorial on producing videos using PowerPoint and adding H5P interactivity within the Moodle platform.
