English as a Second Language – Level 6 (In person)


Prerequisite : English as a Second Language—Level 5 or equivalent

Overall Goals:

  1. Provide students who already have a degree of fluency with communicative strategies for expressing themselves more precisely via more complex structures in oral and written English.
  2. Enhance students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills using a variety of communicative activities focusing on topics such as cultural awareness, life plans, and technology.

Intended Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Explain changes in intentions or plans and express regrets about past actions.
  • Discuss skills, abilities, and qualifications.
  • Write a few paragraphs about life plans and life changes.
  • Discuss the impact of inventions/discoveries.
  • Debate the pros and cons of issues.
  • Discuss solutions to global warming.

Methodology:

  • Vocabulary activities
  • Writing activities (brainstorming ideas, drafting, revising, editing, etc.)
  • Grammar activities and games
  • Individual and group presentations
  • Role play
  • Pronunciation activities
  • Pair and group discussions
  • Listening activities (listening for gist, for specific information and for details)
  • Reading activities (skimming, scanning and inference tasks)
