Interior Design Students Deliver!
Teaming up with Sustainability Office for SuccessInterior Design students participating in a highly successful fundraising challenge on campus this week. PHOTO: CHRISTINA PARSONS
Third-year students in Meghan Waugh’s Professional Practice course are breaking new ground. With guidance from Chris Adam and our Sustainability Office, they are organizing a zero-waste and carbon neutral end-of-year vernissage – the first of its kind at Dawson.
On January 22 at 10:00 AM, the students were told that if they could raise $500 in an hour for their vernissage by calling, texting, and communicating with people on social media, a donor would double the $500. Our highly motivated Interior Design students rose to the challenge and dove for their phones and laptops. In the end, they exceeded expectations by raising… drumroll please… $6716 in just 60 minutes!
Congratulations to all who participated in this hugely successful fundraising effort for the late May Interior Design vernissage. Save the date!
Exhibition Event: May 29 from 17h00-21h00 (Presentations at 18h30)

DSU Health & Dental Insurance Plan
Details and Opting OutPHOTO: TONI RASHIDI (@tonii.rashidi) www.prophoto.dawsoncollege.qc.ca
In September 2024, the DSU Health and Dental Plan came into effect. Some important healthcare services are not covered by RAMQ, the provincial healthcare plan, or by private insurance plans – for example, ambulances fees and dental or vision care. The intent of the DSU plan is to protect students from financial hardship if they find themselves in need of services that are not covered by the province. All full-time and part-time students who are members of the DSU are automatically enrolled in the DSU Health & Dental Plan and must pay their Plan fees before the College’s fee payment deadline. If you do not wish to participate in the DSU plan, the opt out period is January 24 to February 24. Exceptionally, any student can opt out during the Winter 2025 semester as this is the first year the service is offered; opting out this semester is NOT restricted to new students. Social Change and Solidarity
Students Learning Beyond the ClassroomStudents in the Social Change and Solidarity (SCS) and General Studies profiles go live on the radio at CKUT: 90.3-FM in January. These students are participating in a new experiential learning course as part of the SCS profile called Solidarity in Action: A Local Perspective, where they meet with dozens of people and activists impacted by and working towards migrant justice. Social Change and Solidarity prides itself in providing an alternative and hands-on education that addresses real-world issues beyond the classroom. Students develop a greater awareness of social justice issues both locally and globally, including colonialism, racism, and climate justice. Through experiential learning they also develop skills in relationship-building and a sense of local connection and global social responsibility. There are two experiential learning options available to students: a local stream mentioned above, and a global one. Students in the global stream go on a three-week trip to a community in the Global South, where they live with a local family, and learn alongside youth and community organizations. Social Change and Solidarity is a small and engaged community of change-makers within the larger Social Science Program.
