Health & Life Sciences student Arielle Benarroch and Continuing Education Science student Nathan Aruna represented Dawson at the Super Expo-sciences Hydro-Québec provincials last month. They took home a silver medal and are now headed to the Canada-Wide Science Fair taking place from May 31 – June 7 in Fredericton. Their project, called H.A.S.T.E., streamlines histological diagnostics by automating tissue sectioning and imaging. H.A.S.T.E. can increase the effectiveness of histology labs, lower costs, and promote the expansion of research activities by developing an automated and scalable process.

Dawson team takes home Environmental Award at Science, on tourne!

Three students with the arm around each other, one of them holding an award certificateThe 2025 edition of Science, on tourne! took place in Quebec City the first weekend in May. The challenge was to build a machine that uses wind power to travel as far as possible before touching the ground. There were specific rules to be respected, such as the maximum mass of the machine, the maximum height, and the kinds of energy it could use. Dawson's team, the Barbie Air Brigade, included Dawson Enriched Science students Liam Ali-Tse, Veronica Chneerov, and George Alshami. They confidently embraced the challenge, and built a machine made of 100% reusable materials and used a minimal number of materials to get a maximal result. Dawson's team finished in the top three among participating CEGEPs.
