Our Services
Mental Health Services provides short-term psychotherapy to registered Dawson students, helping them manage mental health concerns and life challenges. Services are confidential (within legal limits) and tailored to individual needs, with many students making significant progress after a few sessions.
Note that, per l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ) guidelines, appointments are only available to students residing in Quebec.
If long-term or specialized care is needed, we will refer students to the appropriate provider.
Students are encouraged to access all available services, including off-campus options and tele-counselling lines covered by the DSU or private policies. For additional resources, please refer to our Community Resources.

If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis, please consult Mental Health Services – 24/7 Support which provides information on immediate assistance.
All students seeking to meet with a psychologist or psychotherapist for the first time must attend an intake appointment. These appointments are available to currently enrolled Dawson students residing in Quebec and are scheduled through email.
During the intake, you’ll meet face-to-face with an intake worker who will evaluate your needs and connect you with appropriate services.
Email mentalhealth@dawsoncollege.qc.ca to request an intake appointment or for any questions.
If you have had a recent appointment with a psychologist or psychotherapist at Dawson, please MIO them directly.
For students enrolled with the DSU Studentcare (Alumo) plan, Conversation (by Dialogue) is a mental health and wellness provider that offers timely, flexible, no-cost mental health services, including in-person and virtual sessions, psychotherapy, coaching (even while abroad), and 24/7 support. Process
All new students seeking Mental Health Services should email mentalhealth@dawsoncollege.qc.ca to request an appointment with an intake worker. You will receive a form to complete, followed by an intake appointment to assess your needs. All services are free and confidential, within legal limits.
During the intake appointment (15–30 minutes), you will be asked to briefly describe the reasons you are seeking support and any resources you currently have. The intake worker will also verify your contact information, explain available services both on campus and in the community, and answer any questions you may have.
Based on your needs, the intake worker will provide referrals and resources, which may include psychotherapy through our service. If assigned to a psychologist or psychotherapist, they will contact you directly via MIO. If there is a waiting list, you will be informed of the estimated wait time and contacted when a space becomes available. You may also access free, confidential off-campus counselling and teletherapy through the Dawson Student Union – check your eligibility.
Once assigned, your psychologist or psychotherapist will contact you via MIO, including a consent form to complete and instructions for scheduling your first appointment. Be sure to check MIO regularly.
Psychologists and psychotherapists are bound by the l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec’s code of ethics, which protects client confidentiality, except in specific circumstances where disclosure is legally or ethically required. These exceptions can include situations involving imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, or if there is suspected or confirmed abuse of a minor.
