Dawson swept the North American Model United Nations conference
On Feb. 18, 33 students from the Dawson College Model United Nations (DCMUN) delegation went to Toronto for five days to compete at the North American Model United Nations conference against top delegates from universities across the world–from Canada, France and the U.S. among others.
Delegates spent three days on the University of Toronto’s campus, debating current world issues with their peers and helping avert crises through their innovative solutions. From rebuilding Haiti’s economy and establishing government stability to regulating radioactive fallout or managing the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks, our delegates remarkably dealt with these issues.
While sharpening their diplomatic skills, Dawson students were introduced to new perspectives and people, a truly enriching experience! In addition, our delegates’ performances were nothing short of breathtaking. The DCMUN delegation won a total of eight awards, showing an undeniable dedication from each of our delegates. In Model UN terms, our delegation “swept” the conference and this year’s competition. Our team secured more awards than any other CEGEP.
But this trip was more than just for a competition; it brought everyone closer. Through last-minute preparation and coffee runs between committee sessions, Dawson delegates became almost like family. The support, love, and care we all gave each other were more than just a formality between teammates; they were the undeniable beginning of friendships. Award or not, does it really matter at the end of the day? Everyone was equally proud of each other, and those bonds are more meaningful than any prize.
We can all be proud of our DCMUN delegates; they are the leaders of tomorrow. And don’t forget, like our chant says: “THE BLUES, THE BLUES, IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BLUES”!
