Confucius Institute at Dawson celebrates 10th anniversary
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Confucius Institute in Quebec at Dawson College, a special evening of dance was staged on September 24 by the Beijing Normal University Dance Troupe at Concordia University.
Among the guests attending were Director General Richard Filion, who also serves as President of the Board of Governors of the Confucius Institute in Quebec, and Meng Rong, Executive Director, as well as Don Walker, former Dean of Program Services and International Development, who visited China on numerous occasions to solidify ties with our Chinese partners in the exploration and implementation of various engineering and visual arts programs offered at Chinese educational institutions, Bryn Hughes (Mechanical Engineering Technology) and Scott Millar (Interior Design) who accompanied Don on several of those trips and for some periods, taught there.
Former Director General Patrick Woodsworth, who initiated talks to bring the Confucius Institute to Dawson in the last years of his tenure was also in attendance.
The following evening at the opening ceremony of the Festival International du Film Canada Chine at the Forum, the Director General (pictured) addressed the many assembled at a cocktail to mark the 10th anniversary, hosted by the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Montreal.
