New Foundation board member Eva Helms champions caring community

Share

Eva Helms of the Office of Sustainability at Dawson College has joined the Board of the Dawson College Foundation. Recently, she participated in a Q & A with the Communications Office.

Why did you decide to join the Dawson College Foundation Board?

Eva Helms: I saw this as a wonderful opportunity to become more involved and to help support Dawson students. It’s inspiring to see how the sense of community and teamwork that students develop during their studies can extend far beyond the classroom. Being part of the Foundation allows me to contribute to that lasting impact.

What about the Foundation’s mission resonates most with you?

EH: I truly believe that investing in students is one of the smartest and most meaningful investments we can make. Supporting their education, growth, and potential creates a ripple effect of benefits for the entire community.

Can you share a little about your professional or personal background?

EH: Originally from Texas, I graduated from Baylor University with a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications. I began my career at the local NBC affiliate in Austin, where I gained valuable experience in television and film production. After transitioning from television, I expanded my skills in administration, project management, and event planning.

For nearly 13 years, I’ve been proud to work at Dawson College, contributing to several departments, including AEC Programs, FAMA, and International Development/CTD–Continuing Education. These diverse experiences have strengthened my collaborative spirit.

What are you most excited to work on as a new board member?

EH: I’m eager to collaborate with such a talented and knowledgeable group of individuals. Together, I hope we can find creative and impactful ways to make a difference for students. I’m also excited to learn from my fellow board members and contribute my own perspective to the work we do.

What impact do you hope to help achieve through your service on the board?

EH: My goal is to strengthen the Foundation’s capacity to support students. Part of this is making them and the public aware of the Foundation and all it does.  Students are influenced by the examples set around them — I hope to help create an environment that empowers them to envision the kind of world they want and gives them the tools to make it a reality.

What do you wish the Dawson College community and the broader Montreal community knew about the work of the Foundation Board?

EH: Many may not be familiar with the Dawson Foundation.  It will be exciting to show the community the positive effects of what the Foundation can do for students. The students’ success is our success — now and in the future. The impact of supporting them is impactful and exciting. Especially in today’s world, fostering a strong, caring community is more important than ever. The Foundation is committed to putting students first, and their education benefits all of us.
