Academic Integrity: What You Need to Know / Intégrité intellectuelle : l’essentiel à savoir

You’re here at Dawson to learn. For real learning to happen, we need an environment built on honesty. It’s important to know what is expected of you and what the rules are. Our goal is to help you get the most out of your time here and to avoid any confusion.

At Dawson, academic integrity means being honest and truthful. When you prepare your work, your grades should reflect your own effort and understanding. Surely you already know you can’t bring a phone into an exam. It’s clearly a rule. Breaking it is intentional, but sometimes students break rules without realizing it. Maybe what’s allowed in one class isn’t allowed in another.

Understanding what’s expected and paying attention to Dawson’s policies can help you avoid getting into trouble. Here’s some examples of academic misconduct.

Cheating, using unauthorized materials, tools, or resources, or sharing answers in a test. Plagiarism, copying, translating, paraphrasing someone else’s work without proper credit and teamwork. Working together when you should be working alone.

If you’re caught, the consequences can be serious from failing an assignment to being expelled from the college. So how do you make sure that your work is honest?
