Humanities and Public Life Conference starts Monday

At this unique Dawson event, you will be introduced  to the ambiance, culture, and discovery of academic conferences. Learn about great ideas,  discover new research, and watch exciting debates. This conference demonstrates how the questions we tackle in humanities courses are relevant to concrete, real-world situations.

Highlights include:

  • Monday, Oct. 20 at 11:30 AM in 5B16: Jennifer Welsh, Canada 150 Research Chair in Global Governance and Security at McGill University, will discuss how changes in geopolitics and the nature of today’s security threats are transforming the system of international cooperation that was built up after the Second World War.
  • Monday, Oct. 20 at 1 PM in 5B.16: Benoit the Survivalist will speak about how important it is to be self-reliant and learn how to function without technology. He will share his own personal story of purchasing land and building a fully autonomous base camp.

  • From Oct. 20 (after 5:00 PM) to Oct. 27, returning students in the Arts, Literature & Communication program can select ALC course option preferences for the Winter 2026 semesterif you have any courses with options (choices) proposed to you for next semester.   • Living on your own workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 12 PM - 1:30 PM in 2D.0 (First-Year Students' Office). Learn more about cooking, cleaning, household safety and more.
  • Indigenous Perspectives: The Myth of the Bering Strait Theory Western society has long claimed that Native people migrated to this hemisphere around 13,000 years ago. Since the beginning, Native people have disputed this. Learn how science and recent discoveries have rendered the Bering Strait theory obsolete.Tuesday, Oct. 28, 10 AM – 11:30 AM; register here.

  • Dawson Spirit FriYAYS start this Friday, Oct. 17: wear your Dawson swag or blue and white for your chance to win a prize. Come to 2E.4 to enter the raffle.
  • Vote  in the Montreal municipal elections on campus next Friday, Oct. 24 in the Upper Atrium (caf). Must be registered to vote in the Montreal elections. Voting on campus continues Oct. 27-28-29.
