Second-year Theatre students star in Chaos

March 22nd, 2022

Second-year students of Dawson's Professional Theatre Program are presenting Chaos by Laura Lomas, directed by Stefanie Buxton.

Chaos is a series of interconnected stories, where characters search for meaning in the modern world. British playwright Laura Lomas says, "I was thinking about how I felt as a young person and how the world felt. The word "chaos" kept springing out of that. I wanted to write something in the gesture of that Chaos, as a celebration of it. ... I didn't want it to make sense, but I did want it to feel alive - all the ways I remember feeling as a teenager."

Chaos runs March 23-26 at 8 p.m. and is PWYW (pay-what-you-want) at the door. Tickets can be booked on Eventbrite; click on Read More link.

Inishmaan plays March 9 - 12, at 8 pm. Proof of vaccination is required, and masks must be worn at all times. The show is free.

Andrew Katz contributed to new series of Blue Met audio stories

February 16th, 2022

Metropolis bleu / Blue Metropolis just released a series of original audio stories for kids, in English and French, that they commissioned around the theme of ecology, the environment and sustainability. Andrew Katz (Faculty, English) is the author of one of the stories. “It was a great pleasure to have gotten the chance to write and record one of them, alongside two terrific creators for young people, Mireille Messier and Sylvain Rivard. Special thanks as well to Holly Gauthier-Frankel for her invaluable voice coaching,” Andrew wrote.

You can give "Jackie's Window" and the other two stories a listen here.

Unfold ALC Festival Fall 2021

December 1st, 2021

Unfold, the title and theme of this year’s Arts, Literature and Communication (ALC) Festival, presents creative works by students in the ALC program made in the first semester of in-person learning since March 2020. To unfold is to smooth surfaces, to disclose what is or has been hidden from view, to reveal secrets and potentials. Unfold celebrates the opening up and continuation of our lives as the pandemic starts to wane.

Some of the works in the festival reflect upon the changes undertaken in the last 18 months and speculate on changes still to come.  Others address how COVID has altered our customs of interaction with each other and the effects these transformations have had on our family life and friendships. All the works on view remind us that new ways of knowing and being are always unfolding.
