Student Services providing support for student housing needs

January 24th, 2024

Student Services is now providing support for students with housing needs. Amy Soulis of Student Services says the goal is “to inform students of all housing options and the importance of knowing their rights as tenants.”

“We visited numerous dormitory-style housing options around the school and have them listed on our webpage,” said Amy Soulis, who works in Dawson’s Student Employment Centre and has now added housing support to her portfolio. The webpage is Housing (Off Campus) – Dawson College.

Dawson has partnered with Places4students website (Places4Students.com - Dawson College - Montreal, QC) to offer a database of available housing options to students.

Any student who needs assistance can email Amy at: amsoulis@dawsoncollege.qc.ca

Student Services also offered a housing rights workshop last semester. Another one is being considered for this semester. The purpose is to explain renters’ rights to students.

Street art mural created by students brightens up hallway

January 24th, 2024

Twenty-four students took part in a street art mural project in December at Dawson. Their work has added colour, beauty and a youthful feel to the 2C hallway, the location of student clubs and close to common spaces of the college.

This art project was fully funded by Equitas, a nongovernmental organization based in Montreal that works to advance human rights in Canada and around the world. The project was overseen by MU Mtl, which has a mission to beautify the city of Montreal by creating murals.

Dawson K-Pop team was front page news

November 8th, 2023

Dawson’s K-Pop dance team, IntenCITY, under Campus Life, was featured on the front page of The Montreal Gazette on Nov. 1. The dancers hosted a Random Dance Play activity where snippets of K-Pop songs are played. If you know the choreography of the dance, you jump onto the dance floor and dance in unison. The activity always brings a lot of spectators and of course, K-Pop dance fanatics.

“Dawson has competed in the Intercollegiate Triple Crown K-Pop Dance competition the last four years,” said Michelle Lee of the Campus Life team in Student Services. “We brought home the trophy the last two years. We compete against Vanier, Marianopolis, Champlain, John Abbott, and last year, Brébeuf was included. Each school performs three dances. Dawson’s team, IntenCITY, is strong again this year and is working hard to hold onto the trophy at the 2024 competition.”

People of all ethnic backgrounds are part of this community, not only Koreans, Michelle says.
