Are you up for the November STAIRS challenge?

Share

If you have two options in front of you, taking the stairs or the elevator/escalator, which do you choose? Does your choice depend on your mood, energy level, time constraints, or who you’re with?

For the month of November, we invite you to challenge yourself to take the stairs whenever and wherever possible. Taking the stairs daily has been shown to improve both physical and mental well-being. This challenge can take place in the college, in metro stations, and anywhere in your community. (Walking up the escalators is accepted, provided you are actively moving and maintaining the same pace you would when walking up stairs.)

The goal is to raise your heart rate and become warm enough to break a light sweat. At first, you may feel tired or short of breath, but by the end of the month, you should notice an improvement in your cardiovascular and respiratory fitness. You may even decide to continue making stair climbing part of your regular routine.

For people with physical challenges who are unable to take the stairs, consider adding a strengthening, balance, or flexibility exercise to your daily routine. These activities can help improve overall fitness while providing an alternative way to stay active and support your health goals.

Join us this November and make every step count toward a healthier you!
