New approach to Science Open House satisfies visitors

Share

In an Open House visitors survey, over 95 per cent of visitors say they were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” by their Science Open House experience.

Based on the distribution of handout materials and attendance at info sessions, an estimated 8,000 visitors came to the Oct. 18 afternoon event.

The organizing team tried a new approach this year to deal with the limited spaces and intense interest in Dawson’s pre-university science program. Visitors did not have to register in advance. When they arrived, they were directed to the next info session. These sessions were held in the three largest venues at the College. Visitors had to wait but everyone got the opportunity to attend an info session.

Programs, General Education departments and Student Services also met visitors at info tables in the Lower and Upper Atrium. There were tours of learning spaces as well as opportunities to speak to academic advisors.

Dean of Science, Medical Studies and Engineering Jonathon Sumner was very pleased and said it was the best Open House he has experienced.

Special thanks to the over 100 staff, faculty and students who gave up their Sunday afternoon to welcome our future students.
