Sexual Violence Policy revised at Nov. 24 Board meeting

The Policy on Sexual Violence of Dawson College was revised by the Board of Governors of Dawson College at their Nov. 24 meeting. The revised policy will be available shortly on the College website.

The work to review and revise the policy began in June when the Standing Committee on Sexual Violence created a Policy Review Subcommittee. The original policy had been adopted in April 2019 by the Board and came into force on Sept. 1, 2019. It applies to everyone at the College.

The major revisions to the policy are:

  • An outside firm will be contracted to be the primary contact for employees.
  • There will be some support offered to former employees and former students who are either disclosers or respondents. This will also be through an outside firm by contract. Details to be determined and will be set forth in a procedures document.
  • Other changes include referring to the newly adopted Code of Conduct, which applies to all students and employees.
  • The Policy will be reviewed for the next two years

The Committee for the Prevention of Sexual Violence, which reports to the Standing Committee, will meet in the early New Year.
