The Faculty Learning Communities are back!

Are you interested in connecting with colleagues and exploring new approaches to teaching? Would you like to work through classroom challenges in a supportive setting? You might want to join one of our Faculty Learning Communities for 2026-27.

We offer five brand new communities that bring together faculty, professionals, and staff around topics ranging from teaching in the age of AI, planning assessments, and embodied learning to environmental sustainability frameworks and pedagogical re-enactment. You can also now access our brand-new SharePoint site here to access the outputs from the 2025-26 FLCs (more details below).

What are FLCs?

Faculty Learning Communities (FLCs) are small groups of faculty, professionals, staff, and students who participate in year-long explorations of specific topics related to teaching and learning. Individual and collective growth are direct byproducts of the community dynamic: diverse groups of teachers that can support, challenge and inspire one another in a spirit of exploration and discovery.

FLC facilitators are already busy planning their first meetings, but it’s never too late to join! If you’re interested in joining an existing FLC, check out their scheduling blocks and details below and see if they fit into your week.

2026 FLC Lineup & Schedule

FLCs meet regularly in a pre-scheduled block. They are designed to be able to fit easily into a full-time teacher’s workload and usually meet 3-5 times per semester.

• Environmental Sustainability and Justice Frameworks across the Disciplines: Wednesdays, 10-11:30
• The Embodied Classroom: Fridays, 1PM -2:30 PM
• Teaching in the Age of AI: Fridays, 10 AM-11:30 AM
• Planning Assessments for Student (and Teacher) Well-Being: Tuesdays, 12 PM-1 PM
• Re-enactment as a Pedagogical Activity: Mondays, 11:30 AM-1 PM

A New FLC Resource on SharePoint

This year also brings a new FLC SharePoint site, specifically designed as a resource for Dawson teachers interested in teaching and learning.

The site showcases resources and materials developed during the first year of our FLC project and it will continuously grow with each new year. Whether you are participating in an FLC, looking for ideas for your classroom, curious about what colleagues have been working on, or considering proposing an FLC in the future, the SharePoint site offers a place to explore and build on the work of Dawson’s learning community.

FLCs are designed not only as spaces for discussion but also for creating practical pedagogical resources. Over the course of the year, participants may develop assignments, assessments, rubrics, toolkits, activities, websites, or other materials that can be shared with the wider Dawson community.
