Among Shakespeare’s most celebrated plays—and one of the most frequently performed during his lifetime—Romeo and Juliet tells the story of two young lovers caught between the rivalries of their feuding Italian families. Through this tragic romance, Shakespeare explores the tension between traditional authority and individual desire, while also examining themes of identity, self-determination, and female autonomy. More than 400 years after its first performance, director Leslie Baker and the cast explore what remains urgent, relevant, and deeply human in Shakespeare’s timeless tale of love and loss. Performed by the third-year graduating students of the Professional Theatre Program.
