Description
A radical reworking of Euripides' Phoenician Women, in which the ancient myth of Thebes is reframed through the unsettling voice of its chorus. As the city braces for civil war between the sons of Oedipus, a group of young women take hold of the action, displacing the heroes and kings of Greek tragedy and forcing the audience to look again at the wreckage of family, power, and inheritance. Crimp's spare, hypnotic language collides the ancient and the contemporary, suggesting a world in which violence keeps repeating itself in forms we frequently see in our contemporary digitized world. Directed by Leslie Baker and performed by the second-year students of the Professional Theatre Program at Dawson College.
