Sept. 30 at Dawson

On Wednesday, Dawson College joins schools across Canada marking the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Orange Shirt Day).

The Dawson community is encouraged to participate, engage, and learn more about Indigenous peoples in Canada, the legacy of colonization, and steps still needed towards reconciliation across our country and within our institutions. Please see the agenda here.

Planned activities include:

  • Joining a session delivered by Tiio Hemlock, a Counsellor of Indigenous Pedagogy at Dawson College, to learn more about how decolonization and addressing climate change are interlinked; and,
  • Take a walking tour offered by Certificate of Decolonization and Indigenization Studies Coordinator Ben Lander to discover more about the colonial history of the land that Dawson College sits on, as well as some of the earliest forms of residential schools, which exist just down the street from our college.
