Continuing Education Students

Although the CEGEP system is tuition free, there are costs associated with education. The government loans and bursaries program addresses the needs-based problems associated with continuing post-secondary studies.

Financial Support

Applications are available online at www.afe.gouv.qc.ca under ‘Online Services’.

As of the 2015/16 academic year, students will be able to submit all supporting documents electronically to their file. This service will speed up the calculation process significantly. If you have not been issued a Quebec Ministry of Education permanent code you must fill in the application on paper and mail all supporting documents with the application. This process can take up to 8 weeks for processing. Paper application can be found at the Financial Aid Office of any educational institution or you can print them off the ‘Forms’ section of the AFE web page.

Are you eligible?

Full time students (180 hrs/semester) following continuing education courses are eligible for funding through the Quebec Loans and Bursaries program. The recognized programs are Springboard 08106, University Pre Requisite 08004, Social Science 300A0 and Science 200B0. Independent Studies 08002 is not a fundable program therefore not eligible for funding through AFE. Forms for financial aid become available in the spring before the session begins. You can submit an application at anytime through your program of study. The application process can take up to 8 weeks for processing, so we recommend that students start the process early. You do not have to be accepted into your program to submit an application for financial assistance but you will not receive funding until you are registered. Students must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Convention refugee AND a resident of Quebec, in order to receive funding. The calculation is based on family situation and income. This includes the students income for the current tax year and parental or spousal income for the previous tax year.

How does it work?

Once the Ministry calculates your allocation, you would then print your Certificate of Guarantee from your AFE file and bring it to your financial institution to start your direct deposit.. All communication from the Ministry at this point will be through your AFE file.

What services does our office offer?
