Catherine Chénier-Gagnon returned to Dawson College on Nov. 24 to receive the Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Medal. Academic Dean Diane Gauvin presented the medal to Catherine at an intimate and socially distanced ceremony witnessed by her parents and a few teachers.

The Howlett family thought that Nursing students needed extra encouragement in the context of the pandemic. This semester, four future nurses from Dawson College were honoured and encouraged by receiving the Anne-Marie Howlett Memorial Award.

Gabriel Tordjman’s book was published this summer. The book is entitled: Darwin’s Tea Party; Biological Knowledge, Evolution, Genetics and Human Nature.
The book by the Dawson College Humanities teacher examines how biological knowledge has transformed the planet and reshaped humanity. Using the concept of biological knowledge, the author explores key persons, places, ideas and events that have shaped the world. He shows that while the development of biological knowledge has opened vast new vistas in our understanding of the living world and promises material abundance for some; refracted through the distorting lens of ideology, it has also contributed to great inequality and oppression.

Fundraising consultant Elaine Lalonde (mother of North-South Studies alumna) and Claudia Mastrocola (Class of 2013, Community, Recreation and Leadership Training) joined the Board of Directors of the Dawson College Foundation at the Nov. 23 meeting.
The Foundation has bolstered its in-house fundraising expertise by welcoming these two new board members.
Elaine brings over 30 years of experience in fundraising to the Foundation. After several fundraising roles in the nonprofit sector, she is now a Senior Consultant with Global Philanthropic Canada Inc.
Claudia has seven years of experience managing fundraising events. She works as an event manager with the Italian-Canadian Community Foundation.
DAWSCON, the free software conference at Dawson College, is on as usual this year. The fifth annual conference for students and developers will be taking place virtually on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021.
“This year, we’re going international because we can,” said organizer and Computer Science faculty member Ken Fogel. “It is really exciting having a lot of speakers. Programmers make a commitment to lifelong learning and DAWSCON is a great opportunity to continue learning.”
Dawson students Kahenientha Cross and John Nathaniel Gertler and Dawson graduate Ella Noel were featured in a CBC news report in the lead up to The Nature of Things documentary, Rebellion. Scenes of students preparing for the climate march were filmed at Dawson last year.
The 60th anniversary season premiere of The Nature of Things hosted by David Suzuki on Nov. 6 features an action-filled documentary that captures the beginnings of a movement that is changing the world.
Rebellion brings viewers to the front lines of the climate rebellion, including Dawson College on Sept. 26, 2019, the day before the historic climate march in Montreal with Greta Thunberg and 500,000 peaceful protesters.
