DC Model UN delegates “gaveled” and received honourable mentions at SSUNS

The Dawson College Model UN (DCMUN) team had a great experience at the Secondary Schools’ United Nations Symposium (SSUNS) conference hosted by McGill University Nov. 9-12.
"Gaveling" is the highest award in the Model UN world and three Dawson students "gaveled" and others received honourable mentions.

Industrial Design students win provincial design competition

Four Dawson students in the Industrial Design Program won first place in the provincial Odysée de l'objet en 48 heures competition for college students across Quebec held Nov. 10-11-12 at Université de Montréal.

Two new awards to be presented at Fall Awards Night

Dawson College is holding our annual Fall Awards Night on Nov. 30.
“We will celebrate our students who are committed, perseverant, hard-working, caring and kind,” said Academic Dean Leanne Bennett. “The achievement of our students is our collective achievement- the ultimate result of the dedication of our teachers, support staff, professionals and managers and is, of course, shared with our students’ parents, activity leaders and coaches.”

Great year for the Dawson Foundation

Twenty projects to benefit students received funding in 2023 thanks to new funding available from the Dawson Foundation.
The new Student Academic Enrichment Fund (SAEF) received applications and provided funding for projects in the winter and fall 2023 semesters. Several projects would never have taken place without the new SAEF.

Interview with Bahar Taheri – Oneness

Bahar Taheri is an Iranian-Canadian visual artist and a faculty member of the Fine Arts Department here at Dawson College. Her current exhibition, Oneness, features paintings, a video projection with a musical composition, and complex digital prints at the Warren G. Flowers Art Gallery until Dec. 2. On a recent Thursday evening, a visual arts student, Katya Kieran had the chance to ask Bahar a few questions.

Canadore College and Dawson College to collaborate on Sustainable Happiness

Canadore College in North Bay, Ontario, and Dawson College will be working together to improve the overall well-being of our respective campuses and communities. The two institutions recently signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on advancing a Sustainable Happiness Certificate.

Dawson grad wins major bursary

In October, Blain Haile (Dawson Class of 2023- Social Science (Law, Society and Justice) won a $5,000 TELUS Student Bursary.
Blain is pursuing a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Juris Doctor with a minor in Gender, Sexuality, Feminist, & Social Justice Studies.

New science program for those interested in computer science and math
November 9th, 2023
Students applying for admission to CEGEP in the Fall of 2024 have a new option at Dawson in science.
The College plans to offer 70 seats in a new-to-Dawson pre-university program entitled Science, Computer Science and Mathematics (program code 200.C1).

Students share summer neuroscience research projects at Montreal labs

Thirteen Dawson students spent their summer working on real research projects in various fields of neuroscience.
There were eight projects in partnership with Polytechnique/Ste-Justine, MNI, Douglas Institute, McGill departments of Physiology and of Pharmacology and Therapeutics. According to Neuroscience Research Group coordinator Hélène Nadeau: “some projects used images from dMRI, EEG, MRI, fMRI, MR spectroscopy, or PET modalities to probe questions related to the health of neonates, to audition in the normal population, or to pathologies such as schizophrenia, multiple sclerosis, or Alzheimer’s disease.
“Other projects relied on experiments on mice or rats, to better understand physiological mechanisms related to pathologies. In the course of the academic year, several teams worked on a large array of projects combining behavioural and EEG data.”

Four teachers honoured with Teaching Excellence Award

Four outstanding teachers at Dawson received the Director General’s Teaching Excellence Award on the occasion of Ped Day on Oct. 13:
- Hannah Heath-Engel (Biomedical Laboratory Technology)
- Audrey Juhasz (Mathematics)
- Roger Machaalani (Chemistry)
- Nicola Martino (Italian).
