Help us fill up the Giving Tree for our students in need
September 15th, 2021
Your donations of food are needed to replenish the Giving Tree set up in the Upper Atrium near the Tim Hortons. It will benefit our students who visit the Food Bank in the Financial Aid Office.
Some items that are especially needed include: tampons, pads, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwash, floss, shampoo, conditioner, soap, body lotion. All non-perishable food and personal hygiene products are welcome. Just check the expiry date before dropping off.
The Giving Tree is your way of celebrating Peace Week until the end of day Sept. 17.
Successful blood drive with Héma-Québec
September 15th, 2021
Héma-Québec was on site for the first time since the pandemic began on Sept. 14-15. The major difference was that all blood donations had to be done by appointment only.
College Nurse Julie Gosselin (Student Services) happily reported that close to 100 members of the Dawson community rolled up their sleeves to save lives and help sick or injured people. It is the 50th anniversary of Dawson's partnership with Héma-Québec.
Thanks to all who donated blood!

Welcoming new and returning students
August 18th, 2021
Just shy of 1,600 students came into Dawson College ahead of the semester for student-led tours.
For the first time, the invitation was extended to returning students as well as new students. Almost all students are like new students since most learning has been online for the last two and a half semesters.
Michelle Lee and Billi-Jo Poirier of Campus Life and Leadership (Student Services) organized the tours and reported that students are excited to start the semester on campus. Ten students, third-year and recent Dawson graduates, led the tours.
The students were especially interested in learning about services available to students, tutoring and volunteering.

In 2020-2021, Dawson College Model UN (DCMUN) had to pivot online and adapt to the realities of our new world. We were motivated to continue to offer Dawson students an engaging and enriching para-academic experience, even at a distance. We were glad to support an active delegation of Dawson students this year, both first and…

182 students have received DCFAB bursary to date
May 18th, 2021
A total of $ 127,250 has been distributed through the Dawson College Financial Aid Bursary (DCFAB) to 182 students to date. The average bursary was $699.
As a response to the economic hardships brought about by the pandemic, the DCFAB was set up last fall by the Dawson Student Union (DSU), the Student Services team of the College and the Dawson College Foundation (DCF). The Ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur has provided additional support.
“We are working to ensure that Dawson students can continue their education without interruption. The creation of the DCFAB reflects our commitment to promote excellence in education, especially during difficult times," said Ursula Cabral of the DCF.
Students can continue to apply for the bursary through the DCF website.
Donations are still needed to keep helping our students in this unprecedented situation. Donate here

Highlights of First Peoples Week 2021
May 4th, 2021
First Peoples’ Week, the annual celebration of Indigenous peoples’ histories and cultures, returned to Dawson College after being pre-empted by the initial COVID-19 lockdown. The weeklong event took place March 29 to April 1 and featured a great selection of Indigenous knowledge keepers, representing many of the various Indigenous peoples in Quebec.
Event organizers included The First Peoples’ Centre, Campus Life and Leadership, The Decolonization and Indigenization Studies Certificate, and the Dawson Peace Centre. This year’s edition was hosted virtually. While it was different from previous years; it was no less of a success.
There were 16 activities in total, ranging from traditional knowledge sharing, painting, musical performances, and a comedy show featuring Dawson graduate Tai Leclaire, who has recently made his television-writing debut on the Peacock network sitcom Rutherford Falls.
Other highlights include a presentation from Aronhiaies Herne from Akwesasne, Mohawk Territory, on the ceremony cycle of the Haudenosaunee peoples. In addition, an Indigenous Fashion and Arts Roundtable was held featuring Anishnabe artist Cedar-Eve and Eeyou Elder Joanie Saganash. The round table was moderated by Metis-Salteaux artist Dayna Danger.
Student and faculty participation exceeded expectations, thanks in no small part to faculty who welcomed virtual presentations into their classes. The number of attendees was similar to what we would’ve expected if we were able to be in person. There was excellent student participation as well, which is what makes the programming worth the hard work.
