This course introduces students to a variety of mind-body techniques that help to optimize physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. It explores the benefits of mindfulness-based practices such as breathing, meditation, yoga, functional mobility, and movement in nature. The primary focus of this course is to raise awareness of how physical activity and other health-based practices impact long-term health and wellness. Verify facility location in the “Timetable & Registration Guide” prior to registering.
- 109-102-MQ: Physical Activity and Effectiveness
This combined 109-102-MQ & 109-103-MQ course is a unique and challenging course that culminates in a 4-day canoeing expedition at the end of the winter semester. We will sleep in the outdoors, paddle and portage all our equipment, and move camp every night. We will meet throughout the semester to learn about camping & canoeing skills, including reading maps, outdoor cooking, clothing selection, and environmental ethics, as well as a pool and a lake canoeing session. Group & camping equipment is available for rent at the college. Students are responsible for providing their own food and personal outdoor clothing. All classes and training sessions are mandatory. This course takes place off-campus. This is a physically intense course requires a moderate to high level of fitness and commitment to training throughout the semester.
