Since the first Radium treatments given in Paris at the Radium Institute, radiation therapy has evolved to become a highly advanced technology, while remaining a human and caring art.

In Montreal, the first cancer treatment facilities to offer radiation therapy were the Institut du Radium, as well as the Hotel-Dieu and Royal Victoria hospitals.  Inexistent before the 20th century, it was considered a most innovative method to treat cancer patients.
