Cuba Trip (North-South Studies)

North-South Studies (now renamed Social Change and Solidarity) is a profile of the Social Science program. It focuses on the relationship between the Global North and the Global South. The profile is rooted in social justice education and experiential learning. It provides students the opportunity to take part in a three-week Field Trip to Cuba where they learn about social issues firsthand and most importantly about their positionality and agency. The trip takes students to different parts of Cuba where they live with Cuban families, attend conferences and are involved in civil engagement through volunteering their time for local Cuban initiatives. The trip is organized in partnership with a community organization based in Havana, called the Martin Luther King Center.
