Frequently Asked Questions
All permanent support staff employees are eligible for immediate benefits coverage. Contract, temporary, and occasional support staff are not eligible for immediate group insurance coverage, and are paid an additional premium in lieu of these benefits. Their eligibility is established in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement and the group insurance plan.
Participation in the basic health insurance plan is mandatory for all eligible support staff employees. However, a support staff employee may, by giving prior written notice to the College, request to be exempted from participation to basic health and dental insurance plan, provided that he or she can submit proof of similar coverage under a different group insurance plan.
Based on CSQ’s current agreement with SSQ, eligible Support Staff employees may choose between three different health insurance plan options, each of which offers a different level of coverage; dental and life insurance is also optional for all support staff employees. Basic health insurance and long-term disability are compulsory coverage.
Support staff employees who continue to pay their insurance premiums will experience no interruption in coverage as a result of an approved leave.
